Restorative Yoga

Yoga has become so popularized in the mainstream as a form of exercise and movements, that we often forget its other, equally important benefits. Slowing down to get in touch with our bodies affords us a noticing of its tendencies and tensions which allows us to reset our body, heart and mind with intentionality in addition to healing our nervous systems. This slower approach also allows our breathing to be enhanced which is linked to diffusing stress, anxiety, depression and yields better sleep. As we do in all of our classes at Sanctuary Yoga & Mindfulness, by connecting the body and mind, we are able to identify places in our physicality that need attention; restorative yoga poses work to open these areas through long held supported postures that are held passively yet result in profound stretching and opening all the while. With our top-of-the-line Manduka props such as blocks, bolsters and straps you will be guided into these supported poses that will be held for longer than the typical yoga class, offered in a specific order in order to promote optimal relaxation and flexibility. Yoga practice can look very different depending upon who you ask, but here at Sanctuary Yoga and Mindfulness, we believe yoga is about finding inner peace through the balance of strength & stretching threaded together by the practice of mindfulness. Our unique mind/body approach, we also bring to our Restorative Yoga offerings which infuse deep relaxation and longer moments of quiet meditation into the physical practice, which helps build the bridge of mindfulness and connectivity between mind and body. Our signature expertise in alignment is not lost as you will be skillfully guided into the poses so you get the most out of them before you chill out in them-restorative style. There are numerous benefits of restorative yoga that may surprise you…

  • Strengthens the immune system

  • Reduces cortisol production and stress levels
